I have had the joy of teaching for OLLI at Duke since 2020. Schedule permitting, I am hoping to again offer the mindfulness meditation course as part of OLLI’s Winter 2026 term. Below is a course description. Check back here for updates or send me an email and I will add you to my list.

3192 - Introduction to Meditation: Cultivating Everyday Mindfulness

Course Description: Do you want to learn how to meditate, or expand upon your current meditation practice? Then this is the course for you.

Over our six sessions, you’ll be introduced to the fundamentals of mindfulness meditation and receive support in building a regular practice. Each week, you will learn by doing — learning, exploring and being guided through different meditation techniques. You’ll also have the opportunity to practice these techniques at home, helping you discover which approaches best fit your needs and schedule.

The skills you will learn are designed to help you manage stress and anxiety while becoming more present and less reactive in daily life. Research shows that a regular meditation practice can reduce stress and anxiety, improve focus and attention, support better sleep, and foster greater self-compassion and gratitude — both toward yourself and others. In this small-group setting, in addition to learning a variety of techniques, there will also be space to ask questions and reflect on what you’re learning.
